FAQ:
What payments do you accept?
We accept cash or credit card (via C&Ds).
Will there be a long line?
Due to the popularity of this event and limited volunteers (and space), expect to wait a fair amount of time in line depending on arrival time. If your pet is anxious in busy settings (lots of people and pets), it may be better for you to bring another person with you to wait in your vehicle with your pet while you wait in line. When you are next in line to pay, you may call your helper to bring your pet inside.
How should I bring my pet to this event?
– DOG owners: Arrive with your dog on a NON-retracting/flexi, sturdy leash or in a secure carrier (for little doggos). If your dog has a favorite high-value treat, please bring some along to give him/her in line and/or during the NT for a better experience. If your dog has food allergies, please let us know.
– CAT owners (rabbits & guinea pigs too): Arrive with your pet in a sturdy carrier (removable top is preferred) covered with a towel to reduce stress while in line (or see above about waiting outside).
We’re here, now what?
The line begins at the back of the store in front of the bathrooms (and follows the back walls).
A volunteer will greet you there to collect cash payment and hand you a waiver to complete (electronic or paper)
– If you are paying by card, please pay the NT donation amount with the C&Ds cashier before getting in line. In certain circumstances, we may request to see or keep the C&Ds receipt as proof of payment.
– Wags & Whiskers requires a waiver to be completed and signed by each pet owner at each event (1 form per family per visit).
What if my pet has never had a NT before or doesn’t like them?
We try our best to use low-stress handling techniques and positive reinforcement to help reduce your pet’s stress during the visit. Please let us know how your pet does for NTs and/or if your pet does better being held in a certain position, with a certain person, with certain treats, etc.
– For the safety of your pet and our volunteers, we reserve the right to stop your pet’s nail trim at any time if s/he becomes moderately to severely stressed and/or acts aggressively.
Where are you taking my pet for his/her NT?
Most dog NTs take place in C&D’s storage room. (Some small dogs can be done in the bathroom, if no cats are waiting and the storage room is full.)
Cat NTs typically take place in one of the bathrooms, so the door can be shut. This keeps your kitty safe from escape while reducing some stress from the boisterous dogs in line.
Can I help with my pet’s NT?
Depending on the demeanor of your pet and the comfort level of the volunteer (due to COVID), you may assist for the NT or be asked to wait outside the room (with the door open or closed), as some dogs are better handled when they cannot see their owners. We understand that other dogs do better with their person, so we do allow for owners to be present. Please be respectful of these decisions, as some of our volunteers are very serious about adhering to scientific guidelines when it comes to infectious disease(s). Kitties usually do better with their owners, so we do prefer for you to be present but also need to consider our own safety according to scientific guidelines when it comes to infectious disease(s).

My family isn’t quite ready for a permanent new dog or cat, but we’d like to foster one! What’s the process to become a foster family?

My home is full of pets already, but I still want to help. What can I do to help Wags & Whiskers without fostering or adopting?
W&W is always looking for compassionate, friendly, and ambitious individuals to help save more animals by raising awareness, networking, volunteering at events, coordinating those events, finding donations and/or donors, etc. Please drop us a line to find out how you can provide your services to benefit our cause:
